Senior Health & Safety Consultant

Aeterra is seeking motivated and inquisitive candidates for a senior career position based in the Boston or Chicago metro area to support projects throughout the United States. Ideal candidates will have previous experience in the M&A.
You will join a small, growing consulting firm that was founded on the premise of providing high-quality, responsive, and pragmatic environmental services to our clients. We value depth over volume, relationships over churn, and smart bespoke solutions. As a senior health and safety consultant, you will be part of our tight-knit interdisciplinary team and work with all levels of technical expertise while maintaining a sustainable work rhythm.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support Environmental Health and Safety projects, working directly with project staff and clients
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, state agencies, etc.) for a diverse range of client sectors
- Develop practical, client-ready EHS strategies, programs, and corrective action plans
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients—helping them understand EHS management, risk, and opportunity, not just check boxes
- Contribute to internal technical excellence and thought leadership.
- Collaborate directly with firm leadership on strategy, approaches, and client solutions
- Proven project management experience from proposal stage to completion to include establishing scopes and project budgets, client communications, managing deliverables, and coordinating project team.
- Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects including quality control review of proposals written by others.
- Ability to conduct live training sessions/webinars on a variety of EHS topics.
- Perform EHS compliance assessments/audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepare reports, develop programs and plans, and complete projects in accordance with established deadlines.
- Interface with clients to direct and improve effectiveness of compliance programs and to facilitate compliance with standards and regulations.
- Develop expected costs for clients to address identified deficiencies and implement best practices.
- Identify and develop new opportunities, promote a positive relationship with clients, prepare effective technical proposals, and take an active role in the development of new business with existing clients.
- Provide leadership and technical expertise in developing, training, and mentoring to junior staff to dive their overall success.
- Collaborate and coordinate with Aeterra staff throughout the US to meet internal and external timelines.
- Stay in tune to applicable regulatory changes.
Requirements:
- Minimum of BA/BS in occupational health, safety, engineering (civil, environmental, chemical) or relevant science or environmental discipline (e.g., environmental science, geology, chemistry, physics, biology)
- 10+ years of relevant experience, preferably in consulting or internal H&S role
- Deep understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory standards.
- Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and people skills
- Self-motivated and solution-oriented thinker who works well independently or in a group with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and is able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with ability to prioritize given tasks and work efficiently towards completing them.
Strong analytical and research skills - Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks simultaneously while managing deadlines and budgets
- Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations.
- Interest in working on M&A transactions and being part of a growing company
- Ability to travel up to 30%. Travel is typically short duration (1-3 days) and may be local or throughout the US, depending on project needs. Driver’s license and air travel required.
- Ability to work in an office setting and/or function in a field environment
- Preferred qualifications include Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar.
