Senior Environmental Due Diligence Consultant

Aeterra is a full-service environmental and sustainability consulting firm that provides operating businesses and their owners with meaningful, practical, business-focused advice. Our services include transaction advisory and due diligence, ESG and sustainability, compliance, and investigation and remediation. Aeterra is seeking motivated and inquisitive candidates based in the US to support projects throughout the United States. Ideal candidates will have previous experience in the Mergers & Acquisitions consulting space as well as providing first-rate client service.

As a member of the consulting group, you will be part of our tight-knit interdisciplinary team and work with all levels of technical expertise. Responsibilities:

  • Conducting environmental assessments on a broad range of industrial and commercial facilities largely related to merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions. These environmental assessments will include evaluating known and potential contamination matters, potential liabilities associated with regulatory compliance (e.g., waste disposal, chemical reporting, wastewater, stormwater, air permitting) as well as health and safety. This will include managing assessments consist with ASTM Phase I standards.

  • Direct and manage multi-site portfolio projects and teams in support of M&A transactions.

  • Providing input and preparing technical reports that effectively assess potential environmental liability risks, compliance and operational status in a concise and clear manner.

  • Clearly and professionally communicate findings to clients, identify and develop new opportunities, and respond to client inquiries.

  • Develop scopes of work for complex due diligence projects involving multi-site portfolios and multi-person project teams within the US and internationally. Prepare technical proposals.

  • Work with existing clients to expand Aeterra’s service offerings through a combination of delivery and business development.

  • Assist in evaluating the business risks associated with known and potential environmental liabilities for both current and former facilities.

  • Help clients with identifying solutions for managing transaction risks, including EHS compliance, portfolio issues, and remediation/liability cost estimating.

  • Assist industrial clients with regulatory compliance matters (e.g., reporting, permitting, permit transfers) as needed.

  • Provide technical expertise, training, and mentoring to junior staff.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Aeterra staff throughout the US to meet internal and external timelines.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of BA/BS in relevant science, engineering (civil, environmental, chemical) or environmental discipline (e.g., environmental science, geology, chemistry, physics, biology)

  • 4-7 years of relevant experience

  • Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and people skills

  • Self-starter and solution-oriented thinker that is able to work in a fast-paced environment \

  • Strong analytical and research skills

  • Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks simultaneously while managing deadlines and budgets

  • Fundamental working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations

  • Interest in working on M&A transactions and being part of a growing company

  • Ability to travel up to 40%. Travel is typically short duration (1-3 days) and may be local or throughout the US, depending on project needs. Driver’s license and air travel required.

  • Experience estimating costs of environmental compliance and remediation liabilities preferred but not required

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for employment.
